Step into UR and witness the past and present of collaborative robots

1、 Regarding UR

UR was born in Osay, Denmark. In 2003, the Danish government conducted a research project that required a study on the feasibility of robots replacing humans in some jobs. ESBEN Ø STERGAARD, a Ph.D. in robotics and a researcher at the University of Southern Denmark, conducted research on this topic: firstly, the important characteristic of collaborative robots is safety. Installing and deploying them in limited spaces, and making robots provide various assistance like human assistants, is a very big challenge. Secondly, there is a huge import cost. The vast majority of the driving force of the motor on the robotic arm is used to overcome its own gravity and do work. By optimizing the design while ensuring stiffness, the quality of the mechanical body can be reduced, which can improve performance and reduce power consumption.

2、 Industrial robots and UR collaborative robots

The installation and deployment of industrial robots are relatively complicated because they are heavy and require forklifts to install them in suitable places, and also require anchor bolts to fix them at the bottom. Compared to the external space and hardware requirements of industrial robots, UR collaborative robots, which are miniaturized robots, greatly reduce the threshold for use.

The miniaturization of collaborative robots has taken a transformative step in performing action design and programming work. The teaching pendant equipped on the robot is very similar to an iPad, and more than 90% of programming work can be completed through the teaching pendant. The teaching board has a completely graphical interface and modular processing, and anyone who can use a smartphone can operate the teaching device. Its graphical interface includes 360 degrees in any direction. The position of the TCT center point of the robot can also be moved up, down, left, and right. If the free drive mode is selected, the robot can be dragged by the operator's hand.

The original intention of designing collaborative robots is to make them tools similar to wrenches, pliers, and screwdrivers for everyone to use. The tools used will have some characteristics of tools, such as portability, easy replacement of positions, and easy replacement of applications. Therefore, in the design phase, he characterized the robot as lighter, more flexible, and easier to operate.

3、 Industrial applications of UR collaborative robots

The operation of the door waterproof groove pressing workshop at the BMW X3 US factory requires a high level of continuity and consistency in timing during the pressing process. Therefore, a collaborative robot with professional sensors is equipped to ensure even and consistent pressing of the waterproof groove on the vehicle body. Whether it's golf or Passat, they both embody the wisdom of UR people.

UR robots have important applications in various fields of the medical industry, including neurosurgery, orthopedics, dentistry, and medical manufacturing. It is also widely used in fields such as force control precision assembly, logistics, 3D vision, etc.
